Welcome to Ramsey Creek's Bloodhound website.
If you have been searching for a bloodhound for some time, (and most people look a long time before finding a quality puppy), you will find that bloodhound people are a tad different from other dog owners. Perhaps the first thing you found when researching this breed is that it is different from other breeds and requires some special consideration. Therefore, breeders are picky about who they sell a puppy to. You will find that we have a very strong interest in what will happen to your pup as it grows up and we have a real fear of the occasional telephone call from a puppy buyer that says, "Gee, I never knew that bloodhounds could be like this!!"
Bloodhounds are not for everyone.
Please read and consider the following:
*Bloodhounds must be in a fenced yard or kennel. A loose bloodhound is a dead bloodhound. Once that nose goes to the ground, it takes an act of god to get his attention. If your gate is open, the bloodhound will zip out at his earliest convenience and be gone. You can yell all you want but nothing will happen. The bloodhounds nose is the biggest thing he has and the power is always turned on.
*Bloodhounds will be generally inattentive to you when he is outside his normal environment. I f going for a walk with your dog is important to you, you must realize that the bloodhound must be on a leash at all times. (This will tend to stretch one's arm).
*Bloodhounds have a lot of ambition. A bloodhound is not the big, lazy, "sleeping on the porch " dog you may have come to know. Bloodhounds have just as much energy as most terriers.
* Bloodhounds slobber at about the same rate as a St. Bernard. Something under a gallon an hour when excited, a little less when asleep. This is a bit of an exaggeration, but not by much. Following a drink of water, a bloodhound can shake his head and get slobber on the second floor of your home with little effort.
*Bloodhounds , all bloodhounds will trail as this is what they were breed for. Some are better than others. My trailing puppies are picked very young, usually before their eyes are open. These puppies are up using their noses looking for me when I walk into the room. I will grade puppies along with the help of other breeders for pet and show. Pet puppies will be sold on limited registration only!
Bloodhounds are wonderful animals. They are a never ending source of enjoyment and have brought much joy to our lives. Bloodhounds make wonderful companions. They also believe it or not, adapt well to being a regular couch potato. Bloodhounds are natural comedians and will constantly amuse you with their personalities and antics.
We breed for soundness, type, and temperament. These qualities are most important to us. We pride ourselves in supplying sound stable puppies who have been socialized with people and other animals.
We take great pride in our dogs and only want the best for them. Should you get one of our puppies, it is a must that you stay in touch with me!
If for any reason you can no longer keep one of our puppies, It is to be returned to the breeder. Because we have chosen to breed these dogs, we feel we are responsible for what happens to them. If you have further questions on bloodhounds, please feel free to contact us.
